Indian Flavours Proving Popular in Edgeware 22/7/2009
Since its launch in December 2008, the second Coriander’s restaurant, located in Edgeware Village, has been building up a reputation for its authentic North Indian flavours, just as the original, hugely popular Coriander’s in Rolleston has done.
Owner Amardeep Singh believes the success of his restaurants is due to the attention he pays to training staff, the personal service diners receive, and ensuring that the food is of a consistently high quality.
The menu at Coriander’s is extensive, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices, and ranges from starters and entrees through to a wide selection of main dishes. These include such favourites as Bombay Chicken, Butter Chicken – the most popular Indian dish in the world, Mango Chicken, Chicken Do Payaza and Prawn Jalfrezi. Plus, there are side dishes and every type of naan you could think of.
Unlike some Indian restaurants, where the décor can be quite elaborate, Coriander’s in Edgeware provides an elegant ambience, with handcrafted Indian art rather than hordes of elephants being displayed. Adding to the ambience are the comfortable, high-backed leather chairs, where diners can feel completely relaxed as they enjoy the delicious ethnic dishes being served up.
As a special offer during July and August, on Monday and Tuesday evenings diners are offered a complimentary glass of wine or beer with their meal.
Coriander’s also provides outside catering for private parties and functions. For example, a wine group recently had their wine-tasting evening catered by Coriander’s, and this received rave reviews from participants.
On the last Sunday of every month, Terrace Downs golf resort has an Indian-themed evening with catering provided by Coriander’s. A portable tandoor oven is used to cook the delicious ethnic dishes, which are served as a buffet, and these evenings are proving increasingly popular with the Terrace Downs clientele.
Amardeep believes there are many opportunities for people to have their parties and social events catered for by Coriander’s and he invites enquiries from anyone interested in adding some spice to their social occasion.
Coriander’s in Edgeware Village is open for lunch Monday-Friday, 11.30am-2pm and for dinner every night from 5pm. For reservations, phone 366 7223. Takeaways are also available, with a 10 per cent discount.
The restaurant has two entrances, one in Sherborne Street and the other inside the Edgeware Mall.
